Welcome to the Forest Edge Research Network (FERN)
Website for Karen A. Harper

This is the website for Karen Harper’s lab group and the home of the International Forest Edge Research Network (IFERN). Please explore different Projects and People in my lab group, and check out Opportunities and Contact for more information. IFERN, under projects, is an excellent resource for edge research with a list of studies, photos and datasets.

FERN is based in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.
